Proposed Revisions to Licensure Regulations Presented to Board of Education   As noted, several key items are included in this proposed revision. They include reducing the number of required middle education areas of concentration from two to one; Dropping the renwal options of peer observation and educational travel; Changing the professional studies requirements by dropping foundations of education and adding an instructional design and assessment requirement; Creation of an International Educator License for VIF teachers; Testing out to add endorsements to licenses EXCEPT for elementary education; Change special education endorsements ED, LD, MR and SD to Special Education Adapted Curriculum and General Curriculum; Add a Speech Language Pathology Assistant Endorsement; Provide an alternate route to the administration and supervision endorsement that would not require teaching experience; Change the content requirements for History and Social Studies, Health and PE, Elementary Education and ESL; Change the names to a number of endorsements; Roll the Career Switcher Eligibility License and Special Education Conditional License into the Provisional License; Issue one year provisional licenses to those who must complete the Virginia Assessment Requirements; Establish three Career Paths for teachers to enhance professionalism. The paths include Career Teacher, Mentor Teacher and Teacher as Leader.

School divisions and teachers need to review in detail the proposed revisions and make their voices heard should there be a proposal you particularly oppose, favor or believe requires modification.
